Sarod soldier: British Indian artist Soumik Datta uses music for climate action

Artist and sarod player Soumik Datta is known for addressing social and environmental issues through his music.

His recent animated musical film, 'Songs of the Earth,' premiered at The UN Climate Change Conference in Glasgow, commissioned by the British Council.

He won the British Council Commission for Climate Change Award for the film, in which each song represents a specific environmental issue

He discovered the sarod at the age of 12 and was trained by renowned artist Padma Shri Pandit Buddhadev Das Gupta.

He released a six-part visual album titled 'Silent Spaces' as a response to the Covid-induced loneliness during the lockdown.

The sarod player was also appointed as the artist in residence by the UK’s prestigious 'Philharmonia Orchestra,' for the 2023-24 Season.
