A donation from Kris and Neelam Shah of Mississauga, Ontario, is set to transform the landscape of healthcare for women and children for generations to come. Their remarkable contribution, made through the Shah Family Foundation, will lead to the establishment of the Shah Family Hospital for Women and Children, a first-of-its-kind facility in Ontario, dedicated to specialized, integrated, and accessible care. The new hospital is being constructed in partnership with Trillium Health Partners, one of Ontario’s leaders in delivering exceptional patient care.
When completed, the Shah Family Hospital for Women and Children will be a state-of-the-art facility tailored to the unique needs of women, children, and their families. Designed to support care from prenatal stages through infancy, adolescence, and all stages of a woman’s life.
Kris Shah, President of the Shah Family Foundation and a long-time advocate for medical innovation is committed to giving back to the Mississauga community, where his family and employees of Baylis Medical Company reside.
Mississauga and the West Greater Toronto Area (GTA) has a population of 2.2 million, which is expected to rise to 3.2 million by 2041, including a projected 39 percent increase in those under 18. The demand for high-quality, specialized health services has never been greater.
Cutting-edge facilities and services
The Shah Family Hospital for Women and Children will provide an unparalleled suite of services designed to meet the evolving health care needs of the community. The hospital will offer a full range of specialized services in reproductive, gynecological, neonatal, and pediatric care.
It will feature 31 modern birthing suites offering state-of-the-art care for new parents and 53 postpartum beds to ensure comfortable recovery and family bonding. An expanded Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) will include specially designed couplet suites, allowing parents and newborns to stay together when both require inpatient care.
There will be 36 pediatric beds, including 12 dedicated mental health inpatient beds for children and youth—the first of its kind in the region. Advanced surgical suites will provide specialized procedures, ensuring families have access to essential care close to home. Additionally, the hospital will feature a dedicated pediatric zone in the Emergency Department, designed to provide specialized, child-friendly care.
