Angel Mehta’s Second Act: Giving back through service and purpose

:

For Angel Mehta, an early retirement was never about slowing down. Rather, it was about shifting focus. After a successful career in business, he has redirected his time and energy toward purposeful giving, emotional healing, and mentoring the next generation.

Before retiring to Italy in 2018, as a founder and managing director, the entrepreneur led Sterling-Hoffman, an executive search firm focused on placing senior talent in the tech and life sciences sectors of the United States and Canada. His earlier role in business development at Siebel (now Oracle), and membership in CEO networks like YPO and Tiger 21, reflect a career steeped in leadership. A graduate of York University in Toronto, Mehta now applies his experiences to areas that resonate more deeply with his personal values.

A life of giving back

Philanthropy is central to his post-retirement life. Mehta supports a range of organizations focused on education, mental health, and gender equity. He contributes to Room to Read, helping bring educational resources to underserved communities; the Fistula Foundation, which offers surgeries to women with childbirth injuries; and the Joyful Heart Foundation, which works to end sexual violence and support survivors. His support of MAPS.org and Thank You Life reflects his advocacy for accessible psychedelic therapy for mental wellness, particularly for marginalized communities. He also backs Heifer International, which strengthens sustainable food systems, and Fondazione Pangea ETS, an Italian nonprofit combating gender-based violence.

Mentoring with integrity

Mehta’s impact extends beyond financial contributions. He offers free personal coaching to entrepreneurs and executives, especially in times of emotional stress or transition. Importantly, he never charges for this work, choosing instead to keep his motives clear and his relationships free of commercial influence. “I want the people I work with to know that my intentions are clean,” he says. His coaching is rooted in trust, empathy, and a deep understanding of the emotional demands that come with leadership.

Shaping young minds

Committed to shaping a more emotionally intelligent future, Mehta also volunteers to speak at schools—usually at the middle or high school level. His talks cover topics like leadership, entrepreneurship, emotional intelligence, and social dynamics. Through these sessions, he hopes to offer young people the tools to navigate life with self-awareness and compassion. These skills he believes are just as essential as academic performance.

Whether he’s supporting grassroots initiatives or guiding individuals through personal growth, Angel Mehta has crafted a second act defined by meaningful service. His journey reflects a powerful truth: success is not only measured by what we build, but also by what we give back.

Strategic angel investments

Apart from leading a life of service, Angel Mehta also engages selectively in angel investing, though he approaches it with the same intentionality that defines his philanthropic work. His involvement, as he puts it, is “small at best,” but often strategic. He brings value by coaching founders through personal challenges, helping set up and manage offshore teams in engineering, HR, and operations, recruiting and evaluating executive hires, and connecting entrepreneurs with trusted banks, law firms, mentors, and domain experts across the globe. His investment interests tend to focus on SaaS, health and wellness, VR, and enterprise security—sectors aligned with his long-term vision for innovation and wellbeing.
