Sunny Varkey, a Dubai-based Indian entrepreneur, has not only revolutionized the world of education through GEMS Education, one of the largest operators of private kindergarten-to-grade-12 schools in the world – but also through his philanthropic efforts, embodied by the Varkey Foundation. The MGCubed Project, which uses solar-powered and satellite-enabled distance learning, brings education to underserved communities, including remote areas and refugee camp through interactive distance learning projects. Enhancing the status of teachers with the Global Teacher Prize

This annual US$1 million award recognizes exceptional teachers who have made outstanding contributions to the profession.
