India has become the world’s diabetes capital with 35 million people in the country suffering from diabetes. Primarily a lifestyle condition, diabetes has increased alarmingly across all age groups in India, and even the younger population is under threat. The situation in urban areas is worse in comparison to the rural areas where the prevalence of the disease is almost double across all socio-economic groups. And this rise in diabetic patients is a cause of concern for the public health. If researches are to be believed, rapid change in dietary patterns, physical activity and increased body weight are some of the primary reasons for its increased prevalence.
