The year 2019-2020 was a record year of fundraising for startups… but for the ones led by men. Global venture funding was up 4% and closed at $300 billion. This was despite the pandemic headwinds that had disrupted several businesses. Howeverre, women-led startups weren’t so fortunate. The disproportionate impact of the pandemic on women extended beyond layoffs and women leaving the workforce. The amount of funding that women-led startups received declined by as much as 30% globally. Companies with co-ed founding teams too saw their venture dollars decline significantly.
