Enjoying the hustle and bustle, and quieter residential charm of Osaka

I have been staying in the Shin-Osaka region of the city of Osaka. It’s a nice neighbourhood as I get to experience both the hustle and bustle of the city and its quieter residential charm. The Shin-Osaka Station is a major hub for trains, making it convenient for me to travel. The area surrounding the station is filled with hotels, office buildings, and residential buildings, and that is why I chose to stay here when I moved to Osaka from Kolkata seven years back. Inside the Shin Osaka Station, there are a variety of famous restaurants, perfect for quickly enjoying some local delicacies if one does want to cook, and is late from work. I live in a quiet lane of the Shin-Osaka region which relaxes the mind after a noisy commute.

Osaka is a fascinating city, a large port and commercial center on Honshu Island, known for its modern architecture, lively nightlife, and delicious street food. One of the most iconic landmarks here is the 16th-century Osaka Castle, which has been restored multiple times. The castle is surrounded by a picturesque moat and a park filled with plum, peach, and cherry-blossom trees. I find it a good place for spending weekends.

Another place that I love visiting in the weekends is Shitennoji, one of Japan’s oldest temples. The outer grounds are free to explore, while visit to the inner precinct, Gokuraku-jodo Garden, and the treasure house require a reasonable admission fee. The inner precinct has a five-storied pagoda that can be ascended. The Gokuraku-jodo Garden is a peaceful retreat in the busting town of Osaka.

For panoramic views of the city, the Tempozan Ferris Wheel is the best spot. Standing at 112.5 meters, people get to see stunning views of the bay area and Osaka’s skyscrapers. Tempozan Ferris Wheel is located next to the Tempozan Marketplace and Osaka Aquarium, making the entire area a great place to spend a day exploring.

As an Indian, I have found that one of the best ways to immerse oneself in Japanese culture is through its food. While it might not always compare to the flavours of my native cuisine, trying Japanese dishes is a key part of my exploration and appreciation of this beautiful place.
